This is the pivotal "Young Knives go rogue" record - one for fans of sticking it to the man.

This record marks the moment we realised we really ought to just experiment wildly, mess about on our own terms, and be the band we wanted to be – and everything would be fine.

Gone are the big studios, gone are the chart and radio aspirations. This is Young Knives part two: creative freedom, free from the grip of a tired old music industry. While other bands may have faded after the wave, we found it an certain excitement in it and it was deeply satisfying.

It is our first fully self-produced album, made at home (apart from a couple of tracks cheekily recorded at Steve Winwood’s studio while it was empty). We bought a desk off eBay – the very one used for “I’m Too Sexy for My Shirt” – and we still use it today.

To get it finished, we ran a Kickstarter so David Wrench (Caribou, FKA Twigs, Frank Ocean, Jungle) could mix it.

With no marketing budget, the release flew under the radar at the time, but it has since become a cult classic among our fans — a real piece of YK history.
